It’s not difficult to understand how someone who grows up watching the St. Louis Cardinals would take his passion for the game of baseball with him wherever he may go, and that’s what Michael Bini has done. When he came to Switzerland, he was very happy to find a few nice ballfields where established clubs play games in a well-developed league. And after joining one of these clubs, the Hünenberg Unicorns, he discovered that after a long time away from the sport he can still hit a baseball. So he started looking for a good bat.
But buying a baseball bat is complicated in Switzerland. It requires online shopping which doesn’t allow a player to test the bat for comfort and balance. The other option for Mike was to take a long journey to the one shop he could find in all of Switzerland with a limited range of bat models to choose from. Their prices, of course, were also very high.
And so, “The Buzzard” decided to turn his own bats.
Today, Buzzard Bats is the first bat maker in Switzerland to make professional grade bats. With baseball becoming more popular and with the tradition of woodwork in this country, it’s a good combination. The goal at Buzzard Bats is to provide the highest quality bats possible using traditional turning methods, and to promote and grow the sport of baseball in Switzerland and beyond.
